F.A.Q.

SO: How does this work?

  • If we’ve already talked about your project and you’re opting to direct me live, you can book your session by going to the More button when it drops down hit the Book button and it will take you to my calendar.

  • Rates: I consult the industry-standard GVAA Rate Guide

  • Usage matters: If you’re doing paid social or broadcast, part of your fee is a license to use my performance in certain ways, for a certain period of time. See this rough estimation calculator, if you want to play around with different usage scenarios before obtaining an official quote.

  • Revisions, modifications, ”pickups”, etc. to the original read (even tiny ones!) are $100/round, for any reason. Thank you for understanding that getting a good match usually isn’t a super quick process.

  • There’s no extra charge to set up a live session to direct! I work via Zoom, Skype, phone, or can call in to your meeting - whatever works best for you/your team.

  • I can usually provide a nice batch discount for multiple spots done in one sitting.

WILL MY RECORDING SOUND WONDERFUL? -YES!

  • I have my own studio with the following equipment:

  • 2020 MacBook Pro

  • Presonus Audio Box

  • Warm Audio WA87R2 mic,

  • You will be delivered lovely error free files on time.

HOW DO YOU DETERMINE MY PROJECT QUOTE?

  • Even though you own the copyright to your script, the voice actor technically owns their performance of your script. Part of your fee includes a license to use it in the world. As you can imagine, the more places you use a spot, the more you pay. The type of placement matters, too. And the longer you use it, the more you pay.

  • I consult the industry-standard GVAA Rate Guide to determine your quote. It’s a complex document, as there are a lot of ways to use a voice actor’s performance. The guide takes into account usage type (what platforms), number of spots being produced (even if they’re “cutdowns” of the same script), airtime, and geographical locations covered.

  • If you want to play around with different usage/airtime scenarios for your spot(s), you can use this rough estimation calculator.

CAN I USE THE SPOT FOREVER AND WHEREVER I LIKE (“FULL BUYOUT”)?

  • YES, IF the spot will only be used in unpaid placement (on your website, non-public use, or in organic (unboosted, unpaid) social media.

  • However, a voiceover performance is not a simple buy-and-keep transaction if your spot will be used in paid placement (YouTube pre-roll, TV/radio, streaming, jumbo-tron at a basketball game, trade show, etc). Paid placement increases your spot’s exposure, and thus increases your usage rate.

  • Also, a biggie for us actors: granting you a “full buyout” could prevent me from entering certain agreements in the future, due to potential competition issues. So I would have to charge quite a high fee to account for this. I’m willing to, but it might make more sense for you to buy time as you go. The smallest block of usage is typically 3 months. You can always come back after your license expires, to buy more time, if you need it.

  • Again, if you’re buying a spot that will have a humbler existence (i.e., will not be specifically exposed to the public in a targeted way), most of the above doesn’t apply.

I HOPE I HAVE ANSWERED ALL YOUR VO, BURNING QUESTIONS. IF NOT I AM EASY TO GET A HOLD OF AND WILL ANSWER YOUR INQUIRY PROMPTLY.
